This recipe is really easy but is also really delicious. There are only five ingredients (though you can get away with just three) if you don’t have poppy seeds on hand.

A friend gave me this recipe last year and said that it was a family favorite in their family. Now that I’ve made this crescent roll sausage bake, I can understand why. It is my newest favorite and I can’t wait to serve it to my family!

Growing up, crescent rolls were a treat in our family. I would be an adult before I tried my first croissant. When I was a young mom, crescent rolls were the base for many recipes, especially recipes to share with friends or take to potlucks.

As much as I loved crescent rolls, I had never tried them combined with sausage and cream cheese. This combination is classic and popular recipe online. Our recipe takes it a step further by adding and egg wash and poppy seeds to the top.

This recipe can do many duties. It would be absolutely perfect to serve for breakfast, which is how I served it. However, it would also make a delightful party appetizer to serve in your own home or take to any gathering. I also think this works well as lunch or dinner. Served with a salad or fruit, it is very satisfying. I know because I did have it for dinner!

Prep Tips

  • Make-Ahead – To save time, you could prepare the sausage the night before and keep in the fridge. In the morning, simply assemble the crescent rolls and cooked sausage and bake!
  • Sausage – I used a mild breakfast sausage when preparing this recipe. If you like it spicy, you could also try something with more of a kick! You could also use something lighter, such as turkey sausage, but you want to make sure that it is breakfast sausage (which is seasoned) or it might taste bland.
  • Add-Ons – This is a super simple recipe, but you can add in more ingredients if you’d like to customize the flavors. Cooked onions or bell peppers would go well with the sausage and cream cheese filling, if you want to add some veggies. You could even add more cheese, such as cheddar cheese. But I do think this recipe is perfectly flavorful as is!
  • Serving – When serving, I cut into slices, for easy hand-held bites.
