You can customize this recipe for your own tastes. For example, I love onions, so I used plenty of fresh diced onions. If you aren’t an onion person, you could use a teaspoon of dried onion instead or omit it all together.
Our recipe called for ground beef. Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken if that sounds better to you.
You can also customize your sauce. BBQ sauce is great. You could also try an Italian flavored sauce with mozzarella cheese or something like a Sloppy Joe sauce.
The recipe calls for the smaller biscuits that come to 10 in a can. I had the big ones on hand, so I made that work by trimming all of them and making two extra biscuits from the pieces.
If you have the bigger biscuits, cut a fourth off each of them and make twelve cups. You can’t tell once the whole thing is baked.
I found that using a pound of ground meat as the recipe called for was more than needed. You’ll have extra BBQ mix that you could use for another meal.
