This easy olive dip is perfect for any occasion. Whip up a batch of this creamy, savory dip in minutes! Tastes great with vegetables or crackers.
Creamy Olive Dip
When I was a kid, my Great Uncle and Great Aunt ran an Italian restaurant in our small town. When we would go eat there, I used to ask for a little bowl of green olives. The pimento in the middle was my favorite part!
This olive dip reminds me of those olives I loved from my childhood (and still do love!)
It is a simple cream cheese dip, with lots of olives and olive brine mixed right in. It is such a treat on crackers, but it is perfect for dipping fresh veggies too!
Even though it is a simple recipe, there is so much flavor! This is one of those dips that when you take a bite, you want another bite and another! It’s THAT good!
Best of all, this easy recipe comes together in minutes, with just 5 simple ingredients!
If you’re looking for a vintage appetizer recipe that will surprise your party guests or wow everyone at the next potluck, this is a winner!

- Food Processor
- Electric Mixer (if you don’t have a food processor)
Instructions
To Prep: Drain olives, reserving the juice from the jar.
If you have a food processor, you can simply add all of the dip ingredients together and process until smooth and creamy.
If you don’t have a food processor, chop the olives into smaller pieces using a knife. Using an electric mixer, cream together the cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth (about 3-4 minutes). Stir in the chopped olives, olive juice, and lemon juice into the cream cheese mixture, until well incorporated.
Garnish with a few whole olives.
Refrigerate for an hour before enjoying. This allows the flavors to really mingle and develop.
Prep Tips
- Softening the cream cheese makes it MUCH easier to blend. You don’t need to heat the cream cheese — don’t microwave it or anything like that! Simply allow the cream cheese to sit on the counter for 30 minutes to an hour, if you have the time.
- More tasty garnish ideas: chopped green onions, shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese, black olives, capers, parsley, or red pepper flakes.
- This olive dip also makes a fantastic sandwich spread! Think: those tiny appetizer sandwiches made on toast that you see at tea parties. Yum!
Frequently Asked Questions
What Should You Serve with Olive Dip?
Answer: whatever you like! This creamy dips pairs perfectly with everything from crackers, to pita chips, to crisp raw vegetables.
Can You Make this Dip Ahead of Time?
Absolutely! In fact, the flavors will develop over time, so if you can make it in the morning to serve later in the day, the dip will only taste better! You could also make this dip the night before and it will be fabulous.
Just make sure to keep the dip refrigerated until you’re ready to serve. It should not stay out at room temperature for more than 2 hours, as it has dairy ingredients.
How Long is Olive Dip Good for in the Fridge?
This homemade olive dip will last for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator, in an airtight container.
If you notice any signs of mold or if anything smells “off,” it’s best to go ahead and toss it and make a new batch.
Can You Use Low Fat Mayo?
I always use full fat cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream for this recipe. If you’re trying to keep it low carb, then stick with full fat because low fat dairy often contains more sugars.
However, you are welcome to substitute low fat varieties of any of the recipe ingredients, if desired. The dip will still taste delicious and this can cut down on calories.
Is Olive Dip Keto Friendly?
This olive dip is naturally low in carbs! With about 2g net carbs per serving, it is a great appetizer to enjoy on a keto diet. You could serve with low carb veggies such as celery and cucumbers.
