Sour Cream Dill Dip
The weather has finally turned cooler here in Texas and fresh dill is thriving in my garden! And what better was to use all that beautiful fresh dill than in a creamy dill dip…yum!!
Dill dip is one of those classic party appetizer recipes that you used to see at every gathering, church party, potluck, etc. It is SO easy to make…in fact, it might just be the easiest dip recipe ever!
Sour cream and mayonnaise are blended with fresh dill and seasonings for a cool and flavorful dip that pairs perfectly with any kind of chips or veggies! This simple dip recipe literally takes just a few minutes to make and uses basic pantry staples. If you don’t have dill in the garden, you can totally use dried dill weed instead and you’ll still get that awesome herb flavor!

Prep Tips
- Chilling – If you have the time, chilling the dip in the fridge for an hour or so before serving will really give the flavors time to meld together. I also think the dip tastes fantastic when it is served cold. However, if you’re in a hurry, you can mix and serve immediately.
- Herbs – You are welcome to use either fresh herbs or dried herbs for this recipe If using fresh dill and/or fresh parsley, you’ll want to chop finely before mixing into the dip.
- Seasonings – We use a “heaping” Tablespoon of each of the herbs and seasonings for this recipe. It doesn’t have to be exact; if you like a stronger herb flavor, you can go up to 2 Tablespoons of the dill and parsley. You can also add cracked black pepper or a squeeze of lemon juice for a tangy twist. With seasonings, I recommend starting with a little because you can always add more.
- Make it Light – We used regular mayonnaise and sour cream for this dish because it creates the perfect creamy texture. However, if you’re looking to reduce calories, you can substitute with light mayo and/or light sour cream. You could also swap out the sour cream with Greek yogurt for more protein.
- Storage – This dill dip can be prepared up to a day ahead of time and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
- Pairings – Dill dip pairs perfectly with your favorite potato chips, pretzels, and crackers. It is also a tasty accompaniment for sliced veggies. Some of my favorite vegetables for dipping include: celery sticks, carrot sticks, colorful bell peppers, sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, jicama, cauliflower and broccoli.
